Adopt a Staff Member – Alexandra

“For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit. For the body does not consist of one member but of many”. – 1 Corinthians 12:12-15

Every ministry is able to function and run smoothly thanks to each staff member who serves in their particular area. Just as Paul expresses of the body of Christ in 1 Corinthians, this rings true for LIFE Romania. We each are like members of the body who are skilled in different areas, therefore we all have different responsibilities, and serve in specific ways. Yet, every department has its unique value, and none are more important than others.

We want to give you the opportunity to “adopt a staff member” and support our ministry in a personal way.

Each of our staff members has a unique story of how they came in contact with LIFE Romania and eventually began working for us. Some of our staff members even gave their lives to Christ or felt called to ministry at our summer camps. We are now beginning a series to highlight each staff member and their God-ordained story of how they got involved in our ministry and what they do now.

Alexandra’s First Camp

Besides Iulian and Roxana, there are few people who have been with us as long as Alexandra. Her first camp with us was in 2010, our second year of doing camps in Romania. Before camp, Alexandra was not interested in being a Christian. Like many kids, she thought that life would be boring as a Christian. She came to Camp MIA and was surprised to see boys and girls who could play games, laugh, and do fun things while at the same time sing, pray, and worship God. It was possible to be joyful and have an exciting life as a Christian.

At the camp, her perspective about God changed completely. Then, during the same year, she asked Jesus to be her Lord and Savior. After this incredible experience, she waited eagerly each year for that week in the summer. Where she could go to camp and be surrounded by Christians where she would learn new songs and things about God.

Her Time as a Counselor

Alexandra was discipled by a LIFE Romania staff member and after a few years, she became a counselor. LIFE Romania provided her with the opportunity to discover new talents she did not know she had, and that she could even use them to glorify God! She loved being a part of the artistic program, playing in skits, helping with decorations, and being part of the worship team. Any time LIFE Romania was having an event, Alexandra tried to find a way to be there. She had been a counselor for two years and participated in every event they had throughout the year: conferences, MIA College, and sports tournaments. Through this time, she was learning and growing in her relationship with Christ.

During this time, Iulian saw her gifts and how she would be a great fit serving on the full-time staff of LIFE Romania. So he asked her if she would like to come to Bucharest, 12 hours away from her home. She was honored and so excited to be a part of what God was doing through LIFE Romania. Her role in this ministry is to create.  During the early years, she focused on writing skits and helping with the artistic aspects of the camp.

Studying at Word of LIFE Bible Institute

Alexandra has always loved to learn, especially about the Bible. She is naturally curious and interested in studying scripture, commentaries, books, etc. After a few years working with LIFE Romania, she had a desire to know God more and LIFE Romania helped her and supported her to be able to go to the Bible Institute in Hungary for two years. During this time, she learned so much and was challenged in many ways. Living in community with other believers who had the same desire to grow in knowledge and grow closer to God made these two years the best two years of her life.

Leading our Discipleship Ministry

The opportunity of learning in this context helped her to have the knowledge to create new materials for our discipleship program. Alexandra has been working for the last six months on writing new discipleship steps for our student mentors to use as they are discipling. Now she has been discipling and training our most dedicated mentors so they will learn how to better disciple in the future with these new steps. In addition, she also works to lead our Biblical counselors from our Bible studies who are teaching Biblical lessons each week. She meets with these counselors weekly to ensure they know what they are teaching, how they should approach the lesson, and to encourage the leaders. In addition, she also teaches and trains these counselors how to have a quiet time and how to share their testimony.
