Oana Simionescu

My name is Oana Simionescu and I did not grow up in a christian family. I remember that I was a selfish and a fidgety child growing up, always taking the better from my little sister, which now makes me understand that even since my childhood I was a sinful person. In spite of my behavior, I was praying every night and I was aware that God was ceaselessly answering my prayers. Up until Senior High School, I had a very different life style from my peers; and for that reason, I was excluded and not popular because I did not have a nightlife or any vices that the others dealt with.

Right after our final exams my senior year, I was invited to a christian camp with my sister and there I understood that the only way to Heaven is Jesus Christ! I embraced everything with joy even when I won the best camper award. After I came home, I got hired by my best friend as a waitress in a games and fitness club. From that moment, my life was exposed to a different world that I never knew and I started to hang around with bad influences. I got into smoking, drinking and a disorderly lifestyle. Because of the popularity that I had missed out on during high school, I continued with this for 6 years, until nothing was satisfying me! I started to compose music and I applied to the School of Arts. I thought that I found my purpose in life, but I was sensing that God had a different road for me and I was opposing all His calls on my life.

During this time, I was experiencing severe panic attacks that made me realize that this is the time to really surrender my life to Jesus. One day, while I was praying to God to send me somewhere far away to separate me from all my life chaos, my cousin, that I haven`t called for several years texted me to ask me to come to work at a camp for six weeks in the Summer. Immediately that night I took the train and in 10 hours I got to the camp where I found all of these young people who were serving, rejoicing and having fellowship with each other and with the campers. Their biblical assurance was contagious for me! After the camp, I returned home and started a new life through reading the bible, having consistent prayer life, and cutting out the smoking and bad friendships from my life.

The summer of 2014, I was able to serve with the other counselors again for six weeks in which I grew closer to God and I saw more clearly the blessings He poured out on me daily. I also helped with skits/drama and deepened a mentoring relationship with my ex-counselor. Now my desire is to chase more and more after His own will and build a healthy life style. I believe that attending Word of Life Bible Institute In Hungary is a response to my prayers regarding His plans for my life.
