Beniamin Oprescu

My name is Beniamin Oprescu and I want to tell you how God changed my life. I was born in a family of protestant Christians where God was honored in everything we did. At the age of 13, I started to look for other things to make me feel happy. When I got to high school, away from my parents I thought that I was free and I started gambling, drinking alcohol and smoking. After 3 years I met an old friend from my childhood who asked me to come to a youth service at church. I refused to go since I was very convinced that it was not for me. After my friend’s insistence, I agreed to go thinking, “Hey maybe I can at least meet some girls!” When I got there, I was forced to face many of the questions that I had been running from for many years. Questions like: “Who are you?”, “Who do you want to be in front of the others?” and “Who has to gain from this situation?”

These questions followed me a short period of time, until I finally chose to be honest with myself and to answer them. The answers were very simple: “I don’t know”, “a good man” and the last answer was a shock to me. I remembered about all the things that I learned in my childhood, that we can’t live our lives in a lukewarm fashion. We have to choose between right and wrong and I had to belong to something, to somebody. I knew the answer. I didn’t belong to Christ. One evening I went home very sad and when I got into my room, I started praying to God. I told Him: “I know that I ran away from You for so long…and now I am just tired. The happiness I found is not genuine. Come into my heart. I want to be Yours.” It was a simple prayer but I said it with all my heart.

My adventure didn’t stop there. The real life started when I said “God, I want to be Yours!”. My life changed and now I serve at Camp MIA with the LifeRomania team. I am a staff member and I am in charge of the sport activities and discipleship. I am sure that God placed me here to work for Him because I saw how He led my steps all the way since I first came to Camp MIA. I want the youth of Romania to know God and to have a relationship with Him so that one day all of us will be in Heaven together with our Father.
